A Few Good Men
Ezekiel 22:30 And I sought for a man among them,
that should make up the hedge, and stand in
the gap before me for the land, that I should not
destroy it: but I found none.
Prerequisites to being a Good Father are:
1. Being a man
2. Functioning as a man
3. Taking responsibility as a man
4. Thinking like a man
5. Acting like a man
6. Working like a man
A good father becomes the “Point Man” for God.
If you have a military background you know what a Point
Man is. If not let me give you an example that will help you
understand. Being a Vietnam Veteran I will use the Vietnam
War in this example.
Imagine yourself as a soldier in the US Army. You are in Viet
Nam and you’re selected as the point man (leader) for a
team of 7 men to go on patrol. It is your job to identify a safe
passage for your outfit to their next destination. Unseen the
Viet Cong are waiting to ambush you, your men, and your
entire outfit. Your only resources are the seven men on your
team and the equipment you carry. Will you be able to complete
the mission?
To do this you must rely on your training. 2 Tim 2:15 Study
to show thyself approved unto God…
That which you have learned will be followed by those who
depend on you.
God’s plan involves on the job training. Deut 6:4-7 The
LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the
LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul,
and with all thy might. And these words, which I command
thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou
shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt
talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when
thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and
when thou risest up.
In addition to training you must have the best in weapons.
Heb. 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful,
and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to
the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints
and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents
of the heart. Eph. 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation,
and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of
God.
The success or Failure of the Point Man greatly affected the
success or failure of his men. So our success as Fathers
will greatly affect our families. The success of the patrol also
affected the entire company. So the success (or failures) of
our families will have long term affects on our church, community,
nation, and succeeding generations.
Is. 58:12 And they that shall be of thee shall build the
old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations
of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer
of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.
Are you one of the FEW GOOD MEN?
